While COVID-19 (corona virus) has significantly affected most of our day-today lives, it has been especially difficult for the most vulnerable members of our community. For 10 years, Butterfly House has provided meals, programs, access to hygiene resources and facilities for over 300 children and young adults in the Drakenstein municipality. The health and wellbeing of our children remains our primary concern and therefore we have decided to make the difficult decision to suspend our ECD and after-school programmes until we are instructed that is it safe to reopen by the Department of Social Development.
As a local healthcare provider we are however committed to continue providing meals and offering activities to educate our children on how to protect themselves, and others, against illness, keeping them safe and off the streets. These activities will be conducted in small groups with a focus on prevention of cross infection.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
We were not prepared for the additional burden that this virus is placing on our resources. Please donate soap, sanitizers and towels, food (perishable and on-perishable) and activities such as puzzles, cards, arts and crafts, table tennis tables (fold up). We would like each child to take soap and a towel home.
