Meet the team
The Butterfly House co-ordinator is a Professional Social Worker who co-ordinates all activities and programmes at the resource centre. We employ aftercare and youth facilitators and ECD qualified teachers. We encourage volunteers and students to assist and expand the world view for our children. We employ a full time cook, drivers and community members and encourage of Butterfly House children assist with the programmes in the afternoons and evenings.

We have formed partnerships with local schools whose learners volunteer and assist with the afternoon programmes and various interns and students. Butterfly House programmes have access to the full staff compliment of Drakenstein Palliative Hospice (social workers, professional nurses and home based caregivers) to assist with psychosocial and medical concerns as well as providing access to the home in the community.

Elizabeth Scrimgeour
(DPH & BH CEO)
Elizabeth is a Professional Palliative Care Nurse with qualifications in midwifery, oncology and psychiatry. She has an Psychology Hons Theology Masters degree. She was a founder member of Butterfly House and grew up in the district and is privileged to be part of making a positive difference.
Justine Goliath
(BH& DPH Operations Manager)
Justine has a Social Work Masters degree and has worked at Drakenstein Hospice for many years. She was a founder member and a Board Member of BH. Her passion is the community and is a stickler for quality service provision. She understands and lives the BH vision.
Helga is a Social Worker who spent many years working in England and at the college teaching. She is very organised and systematic with her work and provides safety, structure and innovation to Butterfly House. She is a mother of 3 children and takes our motto; Creating a hopeful future very seriously.
The Butterfly House Board
DPH and BH share management structures, professional skills, policy development, quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation practices. This partnership is key to the success and sustainability of both DPH and BH.
