THE INTERDISCIPLINARY CARE TEAM

The Butterfly House manager is an Professional Occupational Therapist who co-ordinates all activities and programmes at the resource centre. We employ four youth and childcare workers, a part-time teacher, programme facilitators, volunteers, a full time cook, drivers, community members to act as gate monitors and our past Butterfly House children assist with the programmes in the afternoons and evenings.

We have formed partnerships with local schools whose learners volunteer and assist with the afternoon programmes and various interns and students. Butterfly House programmes have access to the full staff compliment of Drakenstein Palliative Hospice (social workers, professional nurses and home based caregivers) to assist with psychosocial and medical concerns as well as providing access to the home in the community.

Elizabeth Scrimgeour

(CEO)

Palliative Professional Nurse; Midwifery, Oncology and Psychiatry as specialities, BA Hons Psychology and MTh  specialising in pastoral narrative therapy.  Elizabeth represents Western Cape on the HPCA Board, is chairperson of the Ethics Committee and is a palliative care advocate

Eloise Cronje

(Butterfly House Manager)

Occupational Therapist with many years experience working with children and is constantly building on the quality of the Butterfly House programmes and leads the team with innovation and accountability.   Eloise is a peoples person who understands that all children are our children.

Petro Gordon

(Programme Co-ordinator)

Petro has been with the Butterfly House team since 2009 and has grown in stature and resilience.  She has been a pre-school teacher but now has a major affinity with our youth.  She is a published author and poet, has worked on the radio and loves our children.  She is very good at hugs and knows when a child needs special attention.

BOARD MEMBERS

Nathan Ramailane

Nathan is a businessman and also runs an NGO.  He is currently our chairman and has been part of the Butterfly House concept since the pupa stage and has remained a staunch supporter.  Nathan is a gentle man with a clear vision of what is right.

Marlo was a member of Paarl Round Table with the establishment of Butterfly House.  He is our lawyer and assists with all legal matters.  He is currently our vice-chairman but has had his turn as chairman.

Marlo Laubscher

Maria has a degree in community development and a qualification as a pre-school teacher.  He worked at Drakenstein Palliative Hospice and project managed the building and development of Butterfly House.  She now works for an NGO who focusses on ensuring that children who have dropped out of school are provided with the resources to go back.

Adriaan Venter

Adriaan is a businessman with compassion for the community.  He is an engineer, was our first chairman and believes that when you are doing the right thing, the right thing will happen.  He is our social conscious and ensures accountability.

We need your help

 We are currently looking for funding for a teacher to help with our home work and Academic Programmes

We know that being able to appoint a social worker to work at Butterfly House will ensure that the interactions and psychosocial support of our very vulnerable children are dealt with immediately.   

In addition we are also looking for Volunteers to help us with assisting with homework in the afternoons. Please contact us for more information.
